Saugus Speedway t-shirt. Saugus Speedway was a 1/3 mile racetrack located in Saugus, Southern California and hosted auto racing from 1939 through 1995 when it closed. Some popular race car drivers who competed at Saugus were: Geoffrey Bodine, Roman Calczynski, Dave Phipps, Dan Press, Vernon "Gabby" Garrison, Lance Hooper, Ray Hooper Jr., Ron Hornaday Jr., Jimmy Insolo, Hershel McGriff, Dan Press, Ken Schrader, Bill Sedgwick, Jim "Candyman" Thirkettle and also featured Joe Vollkemer as the racetracks announcer.
