If you were lucky enough to visit Disneyland's Haunted Mansion grand opening in the first few days you may have been able to grab a rare glimpse of him in the attic during the summer of 1969. The Legend: The Hatbox Ghost character was rumored to have been removed shortly after the attraction's debut in 1969 but nobody really knows what really happened to him.
Update! May 9, 2015: After 46-years of lurking in the unseen dark shadows of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion 'Ol Hatbox is back in the attic of the providing his ghoulishly signature sinister smile and disappearing head trick. Makes a great gift!
